Drinkstone WI was formed in November 2014. We meet on the second Thursday of the month, except August, at 7.30pm in Drinkstone Village Hall.
We are not a “Jam and Jerusalem” WI, more like a “Fun and Friendship” group who welcome ladies of all ages who might like to join us.
Our meetings are varied, with speakers on many subjects from charities, local and national, to forgotten bees, even the benefits of the Mediterranean diet and olive oil. Sometimes, instead of a speaker, we have practical and other fun evenings. We always have a Christmas fun meeting in December.
All that along with the chance to catch up with friends and enjoy delicious cakes/ biscuits and tea or coffee. We even have prosecco from time to time and have known to allow men to attend.

In addition to our monthly meetings, we have extra activity groups.
Stitch and Craft Group
We meet on the first Wednesday of each month from 2.00pm to 4.00pm in the small meeting room of Drinkstone Village Hall. We each pay £1 towards the hire of the room and take it in turn to provide simple refreshments.
We knit and crochet items for charities. This has included
- teddy bears to go with clothes and blankets for new born babies given to a charity in Africa
- items requested by My Wish, the charity helping patients at West Suffolk Hospital
…… to name just a couple
We have made small gifts to give village children at the Christmas craft party. Sometimes we work on projects of our own.
Book Club (Chapter three on the village website)
We meet on the fourth Thursday evening each month to discuss a chosen book and take it in turn to host the meeting in our homes.
We have a lunch out near Christmas and during the summer.
Towards the end of the year members give suggestions of books to read. We agree on the twelve most popular books for the following year.
Coffee mornings and cinema visits
The first Friday of the month is our Coffee Morning where we meet at the local cafes. When there is a film that appeals, one member organises the visit to Stowmarket Regal Cinema for an afternoon screening with lunch beforehand for those who want.
