2014 February 14th Valentine’s Concert
The evening of Valentine’s Day saw a packed Village Hall, eagerly awaiting another show consisting purely of local talent, thanks to the enthusiasm and persuasive powers of Sheila Beswick, who had rounded up an incredibly varied group of artists. Some great singing and playing, of course, but also a monologue, a double hander (Drinkstone’s version of Hinge and Bracket!), and a performing horse— yes, really! A great night all round that raised over £400 for All Saints Church. Thank you to Sheila, all the helpers and especially the performers.
2014 March 29th Salvation Army Band concert
A packed village hall for the band and songsters – a wonderful evening, followed by a fantastic array of cakes.
2014 March 30th Mothering Sunday
Not as many children as in previous years, but plenty of Mums! The children that were there helped with the prayers, and gave out the all-important posies, made this year by Sue Medcalf, to all the Mums there, The flowers for the posies came from the Medcalfs’ garden. An invitation was issued to go and take a look, in all its spring flowering glory.
2014 June 21st Midsummer Madness Concert in the Village Hall
A large number of Drinkstone folk ranging from youngsters under 8 to oldies over 70 gathered together to put on a fine and varied show, displaying instrumental talents on piano, guitar, harmonica, cello and violin with some fine singing, too. We had group performances, solos and duos – there was even an impromptu group of backing dancers/singers! An enthusiastic audience helped things along very well, the whole evening raising £375 for All Saints Fabric Fund. What a talented and generous community we have in Drinkstone! Photos here.
2014 October 3rd Harvest Supper
There was a very happy gathering in the Village Hall, enjoying the first Harvest
Supper since the fire that put paid to the old hall, marked by it being the final supper that Cora would arrange. She was stepping down after 30 years for a well earned rest. Thanks were extended to her for arranging the supper over the years and the occasion was marked with a gift and flowers, presented by Ruth.
It was a particular pleasure to see a number of new residents among the 60 or so who enjoyed succulent turkey and ham with various salads, followed by delicious fruit crumbles.
Occasions like this are usually a team effort, and a big thank you to all the people who helped set up the hall, prepare and serve the food and then clear away again afterwards, with a special mention for Carol Robinson, who worked incredibly hard in the kitchen, as always.
2014 November 26th All Saints Christmas Coffee Morning
After a break last year when we had a Christmas Wreath Workshop, the Coffee Morning was back with a vengeance, this time courtesy of Julia Fiddes, who let us take over Hammond Hall with tables groaning with cakes and produce, raffle prizes, hamper contents, gifts and pre-loved item, not to mention the Christmas Cake Raffle, the Quiz and all the delicious refreshments. It all made for yet another fantastic, sociable morning with more people than ever dropping in during the two hour period. A record figure in excess of £900 was raised for the work of All Saints. These photos will give the flavour of the morning. Click here.
2014 December 12th Wine and Carols evening
On December 12th Clive and Susie Boyce were fabulous hosts to around 50 people for a convivial musical evening, with some enthusiastic keyboard playing (thanks, Calvin!) Surprise guest Elaine treated the crowd to a couple of solos, and even managed to coerce Paul Howe into dancing with her. It was lovely to see many new faces from the village and surrounding areas. If you weren’t there, you missed a treat—watch out for next year’s date!
2014 December 21st Carol Service
On December 21st, the children were once again the stars of the nativity tableau with solos, group singing and readings. They were all amazing but special thanks to Georgie Pailes and Lauren Evans, both representing the Youth Club. The rest of the service was good too, especially Rev’d Ruth’s updated Chocolate Nativity—yes, you had to have been there! Mulled wine and mince pies brought a very happy occasion to a close.
2014 December Village Lunch
A breather from the busyness!
2014 Christmas Day at All Saints
A lovely service that captured the joy of the season and the fun that families and children bring! During the showing of gifts Ruth took a fancy to the poinsettia hat… And the children helped with the visual aids.
