The lunch was, as ever, sponsored by the Wrenn Charity. It was a really happy occasion, concluding with entertainment provided by Keith Cilvert and Bill Smith and a good old sing along with a surprising number of us knowing all the words of the World War I songs! Thanks go to Keith and Bill, and also to David Ford who worked so hard on the organisation, and not forgetting the Hall Committee who also worked hard behind the scenes. A donation of \u00a3115 has been sent to the Salvation Army. Lots of photos <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/onedrive.live.com\/redir?resid=37A559892E54BFF4!1824&amp;authkey=!AEyVB-a19yIHrUY&amp;ithint=folder%2cJPG\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<div id=\"txt_391\">\n<p class=\"Small-para-headings-P\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><span class=\"Small-para-headings-C\">April 26th Guj\u2019rat Indian Evening<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Small-para-headings-P\"><span class=\"Normal-C\" style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"> <a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/onedrive.live.com\/redir?resid=37A559892E54BFF4!2007&amp;authkey=!AFFn-XUj4MDrDao&amp;ithint=folder%2cJPG\" target=\"_blank\">photos<\/a><\/span> show a beautifully dressed village hall for an evening packed with fun &#8211; of dancers in beautiful costumes showing how it should be done, and lots of attempts to copy how it should be done! We understand the food was amazing, too.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Small-para-headings-P\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><span class=\"Small-para-headings-C\">April 30th Salvation Army Concert<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Small-para-headings-P\"><span class=\"Normal-C\" style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">A packed village hall for the band and songsters &#8211; a wonderful evening, followed by a fantastic array of cakes. Lots of <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/onedrive.live.com\/redir?resid=37A559892E54BFF4!1941&amp;authkey=!AOLjiCjjSxJvChc&amp;ithint=folder%2cJPG\" target=\"_blank\">photos<\/a><\/span> here.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Small-para-headings-P\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><span class=\"Small-para-headings-C\">June 21st Midsummer Madness<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Small-para-headings-P\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><span class=\"Normal-C\">A large number of Drinkstone folk ranging from youngsters under 8 to oldies over 70 gathered together to put on a fine and varied show, displaying instrumental talents on piano, guitar, harmonica, cello and violin with some fine singing, too. We had group performances, solos and duos &#8211; there was even an impromptu group of backing dancers\/singers! An enthusiastic audience helped things along very well, the whole evening raising \u00a3375 \u00a0for All Saints Fabric Fund. She was stepping down after 30 years for a well earned rest. Thanks were extended to her for arranging the supper over the years and the occasion was marked with a gift and flowers, presented by Ruth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Small-para-headings-P\"><span class=\"Normal-C\" style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">It was a particular pleasure to see a number of new residents among the 60 or so who enjoyed succulent turkey and ham with various salads, followed by delicious fruit crumbles. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Small-para-headings-P\"><span class=\"Normal-C\" style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Occasions like this are usually a team effort, and a big thank you to all the people who helped set up the hall, prepare and serve the food and then clear away again afterwards, with a special mention for Carol Robinson, who worked incredibly hard in the kitchen, as always. In a hard fought battle that went right to the final round, the winning team was \u2018Know It All Nuffinks\u2019, just a couple of points clear of their nearest rivals \u2018Blacksmith\u2019s Corner\u2019 and \u2018K9\u2019. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Small-para-headings-P\"><span class=\"Normal-C\" style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">A fun time was had by all and Edna\u2019s interval refreshments were as well received as ever. \u00a0Together with the proceeds from the raffle and Robin\u2019s game of Heads and Tails, the event raised \u00a3245 for Village Hall funds; an excellent result. \u00a0Thanks to everyone that attended and contributed in any way and see you all again next year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Small-para-headings-P\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><span class=\"Small-para-headings-C\">November 15th Drinkstone Race Night<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Small-para-headings-P\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><span class=\"Normal-C\">The going was good when all the fun of the racetrack came to Drinkstone Village Hall for a \u2018Race Night Supper\u2019 on 15<\/span><span class=\"Normal-C1\">th<\/span><span class=\"Normal-C\"> November. 63 punters, a sell-out crowd, packed the grandstand for an exciting card of both jump and flat races, 9 in all. These brought the customary range of race-day emotions ~ joy, disappointment, frustration, elation ~ with the winning nags sporting such names as Sue\u2019s Folly, Red Rump, Lord Snooty, Busted \u2026.. Dramas were played out in classic races, such as the Drinkstone Derby, the Felsham Fillies Chase and the Prix de l\u2019Arc de Bury. Everyone enjoyed the delicious fish and chip supper delivered piping-hot from Bury, despite swirling mist en route.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Small-para-headings-P\"><span class=\"Normal-C\" style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">I\u2019m pleased to report that no horses or jockeys were injured in the making of the films and nobody left the Hall shirtless \u2013 in fact there were a few \u2018winners\u2019 among the departing throng.
